Composite insulator is composed of insulated mandrel, silicone rubber umbrella skirt, and connetion fittings at both ends. Insulated mandrel is an abbreviation of epoxy resin glass fiber pull rod. The main role of the mandrel is to withstand mechanical load, with a high tensile strength which is generally up to 800-1000MPA and above. Its strength (ie, the ratio of tensile strength to weight) is 5-6 times higher than that of high quality carbon table structural steel, and the strength can not be reduced too much under long term load. At the same time, it is the main component of the insulation, even if the mandrel is damped, it still has a very high insulation properties to fully meet mechanical and electrical strength requirements of the composite insulator. Silicone umbrella is mainly for the protection of mandrel, sheltering rain and snow; to provide the necessary creepage distance and external insulation. It is based on polymer silicone rubber as the matrix, supplemented by flame retardants. coupling agent and so on. It has good dielectric properties and chemicald resistance, as well as good bending fatigue resistance, creep resistance and impact resistance. Silicone rubber umbrella is mainly for the protection of mandrel, packed by high temperature and high pressure vulcanization; has a good migration, and good corrosion resistance, aging resistance, electrical insulation properties and a high pollution flashover voltage. Composite insulator's pollution flashover voltage is 100-150% higher than the porcelain insulator which has the same creepage distance. It is up to 6KV level (highest requirements in ICE standard), with excellent anti-aging function.
