Armor rods are designed to be wrapped around the outer layer of overhead power line strands. The Armor rods are mounted on boat-shaped wire clips and pillar insulators to protect the strands from various electrical and mechanical damage.

It can also be used as a repair strip to repair damaged stranded wire to restore its mechanical strength and electrical properties.
