Classification of Nuts

Thimble Eye Nut

Thimble Eye Nut

DKLINE forged eye nuts are installed in the thread end of the bolt or eye bolt, most commonly used for dead end the guy wire hoop. It is integral forged by carbon steel, galvanized according to standard ASTM A153.

Hex Bolts

Hex Bolts

Hex Boltss and bolts or screws screwed together to play a fastening role of the parts, all manufacturing machinery must use a component according to the different materials, divided into carbon steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals and other major types. The Hex Boltss are mostly hexagonal, followed by squares.

Square Nuts

Square Nuts

Square Nutss and bolts or screws screwed together to play a fastening role of the parts, all manufacturing machinery must use a component according to the different materials, divided into carbon steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals and other major types.

Nuts Size Standards

Nuts are also commonly referenced using 'M' sizes in millimeters (e.g., M3, M8, M12). The size of a metric nut is specified by diameter and pitch dimensions.

Hex nuts with diameters under 1/4″ are called hex machine screw nuts.

Standard spanner and allen key sizes for commonly used metric nuts include M5, M6, and M8.

Surface Treatment Method of Nuts

Finishes applied to the base metal of the Nut enhance the durability and corrosion resistance of the material.

Black oxide finish does not enlarge the dimensions of the Nut and is a processed black rust. It is mostly used for aesthetic purposes.

Chrome coating is a bright, reflective finish that is decorative and Zinc plated coatings act as a sacrificial anode, protecting the underlying metal. It is applied as a fine white dust.

Other coatings like galvanization and phosphating are common for particular types of hardware, like Nuts meant for fence or window applications.

Safe Use of Eye Nuts

● Loads may slip or fall if proper eyebolt assembly and lifting procedures are not used. A falling load can cause serious injury or kill.

● Follow all eyebolt safety information supplied. Always inspect eyebolt before use.

● It should be marked with a Working Load Limit valid for in-line pull, thread diameter, material identification symbol, manufacturer's symbol and CE mark.

● Make sure all markings are legible. Unmarked eyebolts should be immediately removed from use.

● Never use eye bolt that shows signs of wear, nicks, gouges or cracks.

● Never use eyebolt if eye or shank is bent or elongated.

● Always be sure threads on shank and receiving holes are clean.

Eye Nut

Eye Nut

● Never repair or reshape an eye bolt or eye nut by welding, heating or bending as this may affect the Working Load Limit.

● Never machine, grind, or cut an eyebolt. Never exceed load limits specified. Never use dynamo eyebolts for angular lifts. Always use collar eyebolts (or machinery eyebolts) for angular lifts.

● Never undercut an eye bolt to seat shoulder against the load.

● Always countersink receiving hole or use washers to seat shoulder. Always screw eyebolt down completely for proper seating.

● Always tighten nuts securely against the load.

● It is required that the products are regularly inspected and that the inspection should take place in accordance with the safety standards given in the country of use.

● Inspection should take place at least every six months and even more frequently when the products are used in severe operating conditions.

FAQ

Q: What material are nuts?

A: All Square Nut surface finishes can be supplied including Galvanised, Zinc, Sherardized, Dacromet, Electroless Nickel.

Q: What are nuts used for?

A: Commonly used in furniture as a blind nut, they are also used in rail channels to prevent turning of rail when pressure is applied. They are also used as a perfect foundation in metal channels for hidden fasteners.

Q: How to secure eye nuts?

A: When installing a nut eye bolt into an untapped hole, make sure the shank is long enough for the threaded portion to protrude from the lower surface. You should be able to tighten the nut firmly against the bottom surface while the shoulder, if present, is snug against the upper surface.

Q: How to maintain nuts?

A: Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of the eye nut. Inspection: Regularly inspect the eye nut for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Replace any eye nuts that are showing signs of degradation. Ensure eye nut is securely attached to the surface and tightened to the appropriate torque.

Q: What is the difference between a nut and a bolt?

A: The bolt consists of a head and a cylindrical body with screw threads along a portion of its length. The nut is the female member of the pair, having internal threads to match those of the bolt. Washers are often used to prevent loosening and crushing.

Q: What is the tolerance of a nut thread?

A: The 6H tolerance is used for nuts or the internal threads of a bolt and nut assembly. It ensures that the internal threads fit precisely with the external threads. The 'H' designation indicates that the tolerance is on the higher side of the nominal diameter, ensuring a tighter fit.

Q: How to check nut strength?

A: A nut is screwed on to a hardened (45 - 50 HRC) test mandrel and pulled or pressed against an equally hardened (45 HRC) plate. The test load is applied axially to the nut in either a tensile or compression test and held in place for 15 seconds (in case of doubt the axial tensile test is valid.
